30 Weeks

From thebump.com:

Your baby's the size of a cucumber!
Your 15.2- to 16.7-inch, 2.5 to 3.8-pound baby continues to grow and is strong enough to grasp a finger.

Awesome.  Not so awesome?  The dreaded pregnancy-heartburn has returned.  I read up on it and found the following:

Avoid food and beverages that cause you gastrointestinal distress. The usual suspects are carbonated drinks; alcohol (which you should avoid anyway during pregnancy); caffeine; chocolate; acidic foods like citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, mustard, and vinegar; and spicy, highly seasoned, fried, or fatty foods.

Right.  I've given up all carbonated drinks, alcohol and caffeine the day I found out and there's no way I'd ever touch mustard or vinegar.  Give up citrus fruits?  Fine.  Only one I eat is oranges!  But the rest?!  These "experts" are insane.  Spend the next ten weeks without Double-Stuffed Oreos and the new Breyers Oreo Cookies & Mint?  I've been waiting for years for someone (anyone!) to combine my two favorite flavors!  I live on spaghetti, pizza and chips/salsa...  We eat Asian food every weekend and there's always globs of chili garlic sauce on my plate...  And who doesn't love fried appetizers and ranch?!

Dr. VDH told me yesterday that I gained 4lbs in two weeks.  So... Maybe it's for the best I scratch the cookies and ice cream off the grocery list...  Only for the sake of waddling, of course.  My heartburn issues are obviously for some reason other than my fantastic diet.

Puffs = Love

Melinda and Justin asked if I could watch Colin for a couple hours yesterday - Two weeks before I had them both and Cole was a MESS.  He woke up from a nap and was traumatized that another baby was in his home.  Sobbing... Hyperventilating... Not wanting him in my lap... It lasted a whole hour before Colin's bedtime ended his drama queen ways.  A second chance to run through an afternoon with two AND be able to hand one off at the end of the day??  Sold!

Round Two:  I had a doctor's appointment so Tom was home with a napping Cole.  Melinda dropped Colin off and Cole woke up to find Colin in his best friend's lap.  Luckily, Tom was only alone for five minutes!  He took a devastated Cole outside and hoped a break would calm him down.  Nope, took the magic of fruit snacks and Wow, Wow, Wubbzy to dry the tears.

Those look delicious...

Gimme some!

Tom had to get back to work, so all I could do was hope in the next three hours our child would finally look me in the eyes!

Once Cole finished his fruit snacks, I pulled out Colin's puffs. They instantly bonded over their love of airy snacks and the afternoon went off without a hitch. Who knew?! I put one of Cole's toolboxes in front of Colin and Cole took his other two off the shelf (yes, SPOILED) and put them in front of him... He showed him some Elmo books... And ran in circles seeing it made him laugh.  Phew!  All he needed was a little time - And here I feared we had to rethink this whole second kid thing...

Team Christine

This morning we joined 900 people for the 4th Annual San Diego Breath of Hope 5K Walk to raise awareness and support for lung cancer.  The walk was held at Cancer Survivors Park on Harbor Island and brought together lung cancer survivors, patients, families and friends.

Our beloved Christine... Fun, feisty and one hell of a fighter!

28 Weeks

Already?! I can see why the second child always thinks they're adopted - With Cole I made a scrapbook, wrote on here and took pictures each week. Now? I get asked, "How far along are you?" My response, "Ummmm... 22 weeks? Maybe 24?" Sorry, baby - I may not be making a pregnancy scrapbook this time around, but you'll have a scrapbook of your first year just like your big brother. You MAY be getting it on your wedding day, but you'll get it. I swear.

From thebump.com:

Your baby's the size of a rutabaga!
Putting on layers of fat, your baby now weighs in around 1.5 to 2.5 pounds and measures about 13.6 to 14.8 inches.

Welcome to the third trimester! Moms-to-be who are at 28 weeks and beyond are known for their lack of sleep. Remember if you find yourself up in the middle of the night, do something relaxing. This is not the time to vacuum the house from top to bottom -- even though you might feel the urge to do that at some point. Read a book, drink chamomile tea, listen to soothing music. Then try to get back to bed and get some rest!

Not so sure I have ever felt the need to vacuum, but I certainly agree lack of sleep is an issue! You'd think the body would allow rest knowing a newborn will be joining the world soon... Pretty much every night the baby kicks from 10pm-3:30am, I have to use the restroom at 4am, and I toss and turn until Cole starts attacking the door knob of his room trying to escape (he's been climbing out at 6:30am for 2 weeks now). I change his diaper, make him waffles and we watch The Backyardigans snuggled under blankets (poor Wubbzy got the boot and 'Yrone' is his new bff). I usually fall asleep and he's such a trooper letting me rest - I feel horrible that he's glued to the TV, but those 90 minutes are the best. He'll start chatting quietly around 8am (or try and lift my eye open... depends on the day!), letting me know it's time for a banana/more water and the day begins. Park, errands, the usual. I can only imagine how our day will go when I'm REAL tired!

Yesterday I had an appointment with Dr. VDH to check my placenta. It was low in my 16-week ultrasound, so she wanted to schedule an additional one at 28 weeks to ensure it moved. (Pretty much the only reason why I'm 100% I'm 28 weeks!). Excellent news, it moved. I've gained 10lbs and my belly is measuring right on track. If I'm getting too uncomfortable as we get closer to July 5th, she may do another ultrasound to ensure the baby isn't ginormous. I feel like I'm eating for 5, so my bet is we'll be making an appointment!

Jelly Beans - The Breakfast of Champions

Happy Easter!

The Easter Bunny hid 18 eggs around the den - 12 had jelly beans or coins, 6 were empty. The first few he found were empty, so he clearly thought the entire concept was ridiculous and wasn't interested. Once he found one with a special treat, he was in it to win it!

New toys are awesome, but time to hit the beach with old friends and burn off some sugar!

Fun with Dye

After the egg hunt up in Encinitas, we came home and colored eggs. Quite the adventure - Pretty sure "No touch!" and "Gentle!" came out of my mouth more times than the past 27 months combined!

Nice try, buddy.

Mixing dye and a toddler may not have been the best idea, but he loved every minute and our carpet/clothes survived - Can't ask for much more!

Encinitas Egg Hunt

After last weekend, we couldn't wait to take Cole up to Encinitas for their egg hunt. The 0-2 age group was up first, so we lined up with the other parents and kids.

The minute it started everyone started grabbing. Holy vacuum... We kept chugging forward and the grass was clear everywhere we looked.

Hundreds and hundreds of eggs and our kid got one. ONE. He buried his face in my shoulder and wouldn't look up - When he finally did, the look on his face broke our hearts. I fortunately thought to bring some M&M's in my purse and snuck them in the egg. As he munched and our happy kid slowly returned, I threw my infamous skunk eye towards all the parents opening 30-40 eggs for their infants. Apparently cheap candy and the opportunity for a free Happy Meal ticket made some adults lose sight of why they were there.

Science Center

Obstacle Course

Afterwards we walked around their downtown area, ate lunch and stopped at a playground. Cole couldn't wait to fly the airplane he won at the festival!

Easter Egg Hunt

We went to a local community center yesterday to participate in their egg hunt. We weren't sure if Cole would understand the concept, but hoped he'd at least have fun doing all the other activities.

How the Easter Bunny gets around southern California...

Ready... Set... Go!!!

Cole & Avery checking out their loot

Afterwards, eggs were to be returned for the next age group. Cole & Avery had other ideas and decided to make a run for it.

Once they heard candy was part of the deal, they sprinted towards the tent - Tom opened a mini-chocolate bunny for Cole and it was amazing how quickly he shoveled the entire thing in his mouth!

High-5 for a fabulous morning!
